Bali runs on a wet and dry season rather than a summer and winter one, which is why the fare calendar looks different from a European destination.

Frequently, yes, and this is the biggest lever on the route. Because every Bali itinerary already connects, you are choosing between letting the airline price that connection or pricing it yourself.
Southeast Asian low-cost carriers sell Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok to Denpasar for roughly $60 to $150 one way. If a US to Singapore round trip prices at $750 and the US to Bali through-fare is $1,150, buying the Singapore ticket plus two regional hops lands you at about $950 and gets you a second city for free. That is split ticketing, and Southeast Asia is where it works best.
Two rules if you do it:
- Leave a very long layover, ideally overnight. The tickets are legally independent, so a delay on the long-haul leg does not obligate anyone to rebook you on the regional one.

Which connecting hubs are cheapest?
Not all Bali connections are priced the same. In rough order of how often they produce the lowest total:
- Singapore (SIN) - the densest low-cost competition to Denpasar and the easiest airport to spend a layover night in.
- Kuala Lumpur (KUL) - usually the cheapest regional hop of all, and a large low-cost hub.

- Seoul (ICN), Taipei (TPE), Hong Kong (HKG) - competitive from the West Coast, fewer low-cost onward options.
- Doha and Dubai - viable from the East Coast, but the routing is long and rarely the price winner.
If you would rather fly in through one hub and out through another, price it as an open-jaw itinerary instead of two separate round trips. It is often the same money and saves you a backtrack.
How far in advance should you book?

One caveat specific to Bali: because so much of the traffic is European and Australian holiday travel, the fare buckets on peak dates empty earlier than they would on a US-dominated route. Treat the peak-season deadline as real.
